About Me

Victorian Garden Gourmet: Highspire, Pennsylvania, United States; I have always been enamoured of the past. When I was a child growing up in a modern 1950's ranch house, I dreamed of the farmhouse I walked by everyday from school. We lived in a small neighborhood still surrounded by farm land. My friends and I picked field daisies by the bunches, wove crowns, & plucked petals, "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not". I met my husband as a senior in High School. He shared my romantic notions, proposing seven years later at our favorite park, complete with a picnic lunch he packed himself & a seven year old bottle of wine - (that we were saving for a special occasion). A year and a half later, we toasted with a bottle of Dom Perignon on the back porch of our 98 year old Victorian House. It is an ongoing "Work In Progress", pretty much how I would describe my life. We share our little bit of heaven with 50 or so fish - (outside), & three cats - Tasha, Micky, & Pee Wee.

My Leap Into the 21st Century

Being a girl who should have grown up in the 19th century, this is quite an adventure for me. Taking my business from the backyard to cyberspace.

My business The Victorian Garden was me re-inventing myself in 1989. Formerly a self-emplyed artist, I dabbled with seasonings & other concoctions as a side-line. People were just rediscovering herbs at the time, so I decided to create my own line of dip & cheese spread mixes, seasonings, bread mixes, & sugars.

My friends & family were willing recipients of my latest creations. We would come up with names in late night brain-storming sessions over a glass of wine. Some titles started out with a name-Violet-my husband's grandmother. Next I chose a Victorian engraving for the art. The spread was a feisty, peppery little number, so it became Violet's Passionately Pepper Spread. I have a thing for tongue-twisters.

Each package of herb dip, cheese spread, sugar, soup mix, or bread mix has a recipe card sporting a Victorian Engraving or Edwardian Era French Postcard embellished with a hand-tied bow.

I convinced my family it is ok to eat flowers, serving them Lavender Pound Cake, or Rose Geranium Shortbread Cookies.
Some were hesitant, but curiosity won out-& they just smelled so darn delicious!
